Transferring Buses
All Centro bus routes begin and end at the County Office Building (COB), located at 60 Central Avenue in Cortland. Bus schedules are designed to line up with one another, allowing riders to easily transfer from one route to another at the COB.
When buses arrive at the COB, they park in numerical order, with Route 1 at the front and Route 11 at the back. This makes transfers simple and easy to navigate.
For example, if you live along Route 1 and want to travel to Walmart on Route 4, you would ride Route 1 to the COB, exit the bus, and walk back to the Route 4 bus to continue your trip.
Most transfers only take a few minutes, giving riders enough time to safely move between buses before the next routes depart.
Interlining
Centro Routes 1–4 are “interlined,” meaning the same bus continues from one route to the next throughout the day instead of operating the same route repeatedly.
Here’s how it works:
-
A bus begins as Route 1 and completes its route loop
-
When it returns to the County Office Building (COB), it briefly pauses
-
The same bus then leaves the COB as Route 2
-
Route 2 then becomes Route 3, Route 3 becomes Route 4, and Route 4 becomes Route 1 again

About Centro
Centro (Central New York Regional Transportation Authority) is the public transportation provider serving Cortland County and the greater Central New York region. Headquartered in Syracuse, Centro operates local and regional bus service, including fixed-route transit and ADA-accessible paratransit options, connecting residents to jobs, healthcare, education, and everyday destinations across the county.
Centro is one of four major public transportation authorities established by New York State in 1970, alongside systems in Albany, Buffalo, and Rochester. As a regional authority, it provides service not only in Cortland County, but also across Onondaga County, Oswego County, Cayuga County, and Oneida County.
Since beginning operations in the early 1970s, Centro has expanded its reach by bringing together transit systems across the region—starting in Syracuse (Onondaga County) in 1972, expanding to Oswego County in 1972, Cayuga County in 1973, and later integrating Oneida County services in 2005. Centro began serving Cortland County on March 31, 2025, further extending its regional network.
Today, Centro provides reliable, accessible transportation through a network of fixed routes and paratransit services, helping connect communities and improve mobility throughout Central New York.
